Kia ora, and welcome. We are the Wellington Compost Collective, a volunteer group working on community composting hubs around the city. This website is brand new, and so is this blog post, so thank you for being some of the first people to find us.
The idea behind what we are doing is simple. Food scraps do not belong in landfill, and most of us do not have the space, time, or knowledge to compost well on our own. So we are setting up local drop-off points where people can bring their scraps, and volunteers help keep the whole thing running.
This site is going to be the practical home base for that work. Over time we want it to show where the drop-off points are, help people find and join volunteer rosters, and make it easy for anyone in the neighbourhood to sign up and get involved, whether that means dropping off scraps, turning compost, or helping with the logistics behind the scenes.
We are still building all of this, piece by piece, and we would rather do that openly than wait until everything looks polished. If you are curious, keen to volunteer, or just want to know more about composting in your part of Wellington, we would love to hear from you. More details on hubs and rosters will follow as they come together.
